THIS line-up at Sheffield Wednesday’s ground was united in a common cause and gratitude. They were all affected by cancer and treated by the same local surgeon, Dr Afshin Yousefpour. The group was brought together for a VIP day at Hillsborough by businessman Nick Bartholomew, who was diagnosed with a rare form of throat and tongue cancer but after chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery performed by Dr Yousefpour, who works at Charles Clifford Dental Hospital. He is now in remission. The father-of-two from Totley invited nine other cancer sufferers to an executive box at Hillsborough for the match against Swindon Town, going on a behind-the- scenes tour of the ground and meeting Owls chairman Milan Mandaric. Nick will be joining Dr Yousefpour in the 10k Run in the Park in Graves Park on Sunday, July 10 to raise money for the Charles Clifford Hospital and Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity. He said: “I feel honoured to run alongside Dr Afshin Yousefpour, who performed the life-changing operation using the bone and muscle from my fibula from the lower right leg to rebuild my jaw. “I owe a deep debt of gratitude to both these hospitals which provided me and my family with excellent care and support. “My life is now finally back to normal and this run will hopefully raise money for two fantastic charities so that they can continue their work and receive the recognition they deserve.” The event in Graves Park includes a 3k fun run.
